The battle that determines your future

Brain Inputs.png

What is the single most important thing that determines your future? Is it the things you do or the decisions you make? Not quite. Is it who you spent time with? Wrong again. What determines your future? It’s you - it’s who you are.

Who you are affects everything else. It determines your decisions. It influences who you spend time with. It even shapes your desires. Who you are affects every other part of your life.

Think about it this way - what do you take with you into every future job, situation, relationship, and decision? Who you are. And it determines the outcome of each of those things.

The next logical question is this: How can I change who I am? … I’m so glad you asked! I’m going to tell you!

There’s a battle going on around you and inside of you. It’s a battle for the space between your ears. The results of this battle change you either for good or for bad. The things that influence the outcome of this battle are the inputs in your life. Here are just some of those inputs:

  • what you listen to (music, podcasts)

  • what you read (books, articles, blog posts - wink wink)

  • what you watch (TV, movies, shows, videos)

  • what you hear (the people you listen to)

  • what you consume (phone, photos)

  • what you say (it affects what you think, do, hear)

Notice that these inputs are not inherently good or bad. That’s why it’s important to have them on your radar - so you can monitor and intentionally choose positive inputs!

If you lose the battle over your mind, you won’t win many other battles.

I’ll provide some examples of choosing positive inputs. As an elf, here is how this insight affects me:

  • I try to read things that make me smile - especially things that rhyme!

  • I listen to Christmas songs and other upbeat music, but nothing with topics or words from the naughty list.

  • On my phone, I like to look at pictures of candy and cookies and ice cream and Christmas decorations!

  • I talk about things that I think are amazing or exciting or interesting.

  • I don’t hang out with those grumpy South Pole elves!

  • I also try to read things that challenge me, change me, grow me, in order to more become someone who encourages people, speaks life, and makes them smile.

You can think of it this way: you are taking in these inputs. The inputs (good or bad) soak into your mind. Your mind is who you are, and everything else in your life flows from there. Your decisions. Your relationships. The things you think about regularly. Your hopes and dreams.

I’m convinced of this: If you lose the battle over your mind, you won’t win many other battles.

I bet you had at least one insight while reading this. Please share it in the comments! What is one positive or negative input that would be helpful for everyone to be aware of?

Christmas is coming! Did you know you and I can make magic together? I can make a video for you to send to someone. You just tell me what to say, and I’ll do the rest! Or I can help make people smile at your company Christmas party! I also like private parties.

Let me know! We’re running out of time!
