Dormer Bench Seat

Original Design. White paint, printed fabric. A personal, comfortable nook.

Oh, those dormers! Our house has four dormers total. They can be either a challenge or a blessing. At first, I viewed them only as a challenge. Not until I began to view them as opportunities did they become blessings. I wanted to create a bench seat that could be used as a reading nook, so started planning. I used scrap wood for much of this project but supplemented with other pieces as I needed them. I wanted to make sure it was strong, simple, pretty, and provided storage. Fortunately, we had an extra cushion in the house that we weren’t using. One of the most difficult parts of this was working with the Velcro when sewing the cover for the cushion. But it all worked out! Now to find out how to make the best use of all that storage space…
